Activity development

Teachers of the School “C.P. Manuel Pérez” have been in contact with the coordinator of the CReA proyect and other teachers involved since summer 2002. These e-mail contacts have resulted into the idea of making an activity with junior students. The initial proposal was getting enriched with the interchanges of ideas among the participants towards the final activity which has now been fully developed.

The development of this activity is based on:

  • The class group of each country will be divided in pairs that will be named after the letters of the alphabet (A, B, C…)
  • Each school team shall have its correspondant in another school team with an equal alphabet letter.
  • The activity will consist on making out riddles related to the curriculum contents of Natural Science
  • Riddles shall be sent by e-mail. Before this, a pop account for each of the groups shall be created.
  • The corresponding group shall send the answer together with a new riddle of their own.
  • The interchange of riddles doesn't have an expiry date. It shall only be settled the starting date of the activity.

Oporto students started by sending an e-mail where they presented themselves together with a riddle related to the science area. The partners of Bollullos answered them with the solution of the riddle and with another new one together with their presentation in English and in Spanish, so that the cycle continues.

Further comments

The creation and solution of the riddles is an amusing activity that attracts the learners' interest. In addition to it, the riddle content is related to the environmental knowledge curriculum.

There were some difficulties at the beginning of the activity related to the lack of the learners' practice in handling the electronic mail which has now been overcome in most of the cases. The activity was enriched due to the opportunity of using other languages to interchange the riddles.

There has been introduced modifications in the previous design of the activity. Lack of time in the computer room to complete the activity (though the activity was already prepared) was a handicap to go on successfully. In order to solve it, the learners prepared the answer and the riddle in a text processor and once they were fully finished they were immediately sent via e-mail.
